Tollgrade extends the role of existing DOCSIS- and Euro-DOCSIS-based status and performance monitoring equipment with the industry’s first HFC-based VoIP and IP test point. Field-downloadable software modules enable cable operators to proactively monitor the network’s ability to transport IP-data and VoIP services from the headend to the end-of-line.

These software modules add specialized functionality which enables a transponder to be provisioned as an E-MTA with the ability to answer telephony calls and monitor call quality in real-time, returning RTCP XR reports (IETF RFC 3661) to the calling system.

Powerful monitoring and diagnostic capabilities, such as FTP-based throughput testing, can also be added to allow cable operators to proactively test bandwidth availability at many locations deep within the HFC plant.

The Cheetah IP modules simulate end-user behavior and provide quantitative measurements of service performance. They are specifically designed to establish “standard candle” performance benchmarks and facilitate efficient segmentation of the plant.
