The battleground between traditional telcos and cable operators has clearly expanded to three fronts, representing all of the coveted “triple play” services. While each tries to preserve their incumbent customer base, all service providers are introducing new service technologies into existing network architectures with the intent to gain market share from each other’s subscriber base through bundled service offerings and distinctive quality-of-service claims.

For cable operators, successful maintenance of high quality of service with the rollout of IP services is directly related to the challenge of managing the HFC network. The HFC network is vulnerable to constant changing RF conditions that are difficult to isolate and resolve, resulting in costly truck rolls. Cable operators estimate that the majority of their troubles — including those relating to multi-layered IP services — are within the HFC network (from headend to home).

DOCSIS-based Status Monitoring
Our HMS power supply transponders and end-of-line device for DOCSIS networks enable operators to monitor and test the physical layer of the network without costly headend network infrastructure.

IP/HFC Service Assurance
Our service-specific test modules for VoIP and IP transform Tollgrade transponders and end-of-line devices into specialized test probes for voice and data services, establishing essential testability deep into the HFC plant.
